Daily Writing Prompt

Daily writing prompt
What’s your favorite game (card, board, video, etc.)? Why?

I’m a product of the late 80’s and 90’s. My family board game night consisted of Trouble, Sorry, and Monopoly. Come to think of it I think the board game makers at the time were under a lot of pressure. As I got older, and a bit wiser, my family added games like Scrabble, Outburst, and Pictionary. As your brain grows so does the complexity of the games. Eventually we got in to games like Tribond where you had to find a commonality between three things and Trivial pursuit to test our knowledge of the different slices of pie. I have fond places in my heart for these nostalgic games, and to this day will play any trivia game thrown my way, but the cake goes to what has been rated the most overrated board game of all time. Catan.

A simple game that’s easy to learn, has socially dependent gameplay, and a changing board that never makes the same game twice! It is an amazingly good time when hoarding all the brick and begging to do anything for a smidgeon of wheat. The dice of course rule all and the random chance can demolish even the most skilled strategist. From my desire to play this game so often that my family, along with the dice, usually conspire to make me the loser. Even if I’ve lost 100 games I’ll want 100 more. It’s quick when you know what you’re doing and an excellent lead in game on a board game night! The expansions let more players come in and add new scenarios to combative to collaborative! Ten of ten my go to game!

Honorable mention is a game called Roll through the ages: The bronze age. My wife grabbed this game for me for our Bronze anniversary! It’s a dice rolling game where the dice represent food, workers, trade goods, currency, disasters, or some combination of all the categories. The goal is to get workers to build cities and monuments. Once all the monuments are built the game is over. You get more dice for more cities, but need to roll food to feed your cities each turn. More cities = more food needed. Trade goods and currency are used to buy modifiers to the dice and and modifiers to prevent the negative impact of disasters. Disasters being rolled take away from your final score! This is the Game! I love it and you can play with 2 to 5 people!

These are just some games I love, I’m down for any game any time! So if anyone wants to play some online board games hit me up!

I’ll never be board of them!
