Music can help the day really fly by. I am fortunate enough in my line of work to have complete control over the musical selection. That is until my toddler requests the freeze dance song. Then it’s up to DJ toddles to come up with the sick beats. My line of work of course is predominantly Stay home Dad. I of course uber when my wife is off and after her shifts, but that’s just making money. The kids are the real work.
I love them greatly and since they are very young they usually will jam out to whatever I have on. Lately my wife and I have been on a large Taylor Swift kick. We are heading out to see her in LA very soon and we couldn’t be more excited! She has dominated the airwaves so much so that my toddler, who started the year a little behind in speech, now proudly shouts her songs for all to hear. He particularly enjoys Cruel Summer and Anti-Hero. There is something cathartic to hear his little voice say I’m the problem.
Taylor is not the only big artist played in my home. One of my absolute favorites is AJR. They have fun and vulnerable lyrics, with a nice set of up tempo songs! I got to see them in Charlotte and I love them. My son also has a few of those songs down as well.
When the little ones are down and I have a moment to myself to clean or to write, I usually have Podcasts on. I love True crime, History, and Comedy. Therefore my go to weekly is Timesuck, with Dan Cummins. Wildly irreverent humor as you explore a new topic each week. The pod casts bread and butter are True Crime and cults, but they also dive into bits of history, science, and mythology. People who sponsor the show are able to vote topics in and were mean enough to make him go over multiverse theory. He’s extremely loyal to his fans and works hard to make sure they enjoy his product. So even though he’s not a scientist, he did his best to explore an odd science theory. He does that with every episode and really kills it with the info. He makes sure learning can be fun alongside informative.
Along that vein of Comedic I also listen to the Middle of Somewhere. Two Comedians(Cy Amundson, and Chad Daniels) just bouncing their day to day off each other and riffing on one another. Not Wildly informative but very humorous! On the informative side I listen to Gastropod. A Podcast about Food through the lens of Science and History. Cynthia Graber and Nicola Twilley Explore different types of food, how it’s made, where it’s from, and the history behind it all. They do a great job of exploring food through not just taste but it’s importance. Their banter is top notch, and they are thoughtful and genuine in their delivery of their findings!
The last is one for fun, more show that any of the other casts, and that’s Dungeons and Daddies. A DND podcast, kind of. I love dungeons and dragons, but listening to other people playing it can be so boring. This crew though crushes it completely. Amazing chemistry and not being so strict with the rules are what make this an actual play actually worth listening too.
That’s for fun and leisure, but when I’m out to drive people around I link up Pandora and just let them mix a station based on Darius Rucker. I Drive in Charleston South Carolina, so it’s fun to have a hometown guy be the root of the music I drive around with. Other bands that feature, are Counting Crowes, The fray, Matchbox 20, Third eye Blind, and Three doors down, just to name a few! The music is very mellow and I almost never get a complaint.
Music is so fun to listen too and I hope you all have something awesome to listen too while working. Today I’ve got to get some blood flowing and rattle off some of the dust. Something upbeat to knock the rust out. Or may just Shake the rust off…
Time to shake it off!
