Daily Prompt: 5 things you’re good at.

Share five things you’re good at.

It’s good from time to time to share a little self love. This prompt is great because it gives you a chance to toot your own horn! So many time we are asked to be critical of ourselves. This can lead to some really depressing times. When a random thing pops up to encourage you have some self love, take it! On the track of life we’re all running our own little trains. Take a second and appreciate what you’re doing right. Buckle in conductors, because away we go! Time to get active with your horn! Toot, toot!

I’ll start with one of my favorite things I’m good at. I’m a good cook. Anyone can be if they follow a recipe, but I think it takes extra passion to plan out and make a meal from scratch. I’m especially proud of a meal I can configure from just feel. No recipe just intuition and the supplies in the kitchen. Those dishes are fun because you can alter the plate at a moments notice! It’s very rewarding to get praise from one of your dishes. I know deviled eggs are a pretty simple make but they take time and care. When you drop off a set of the paprika loaded treats at a potluck you’re the bell of the ball!

I’m a good dad. I love being one every second of every day (even the nighttime wake up screams). Of course you never know the results until much later, but for now my kids are fed and happy. I engage with them daily and know all the things that you’re supposed to know. Helping with scheduling their appointments, knowing what’s going on and trying to be engaged with development goals! I’m certainly not one of those people who refer to watching my kid as babysitting. Did some of you even want kids?

I’m good at trivia and games. I love strategy and board games and do very decent at them (provided my wife isn’t trying to shaft me on sheep and brick). I excel in trivia with my “dabble in many things” lifestyle. I’ve had a lot of jobs and I’ve met a lot of people. One of my favorite things is to learn about what other people do, it runs me down a rabbit hole where I have to learn a bit. It might lead me to being a jack of all trades and a master of none, but I enjoy knowing a little about a lot of things over a lot about just one thing.

I’m good at fixing things. One of my wife’s biggest concerns with owning a home was that we’d have to call someone to do any old thing. Enter handy man Kev! With the exception of electric work and plumbing I can do it all! Granted I’m usually one YouTube video away from said job, but it’ll get done. One of our first big project was our yard. All the grass was thorny and weeded over. Makes it hard to play in the yard when every step is painful. It was even sharp for my dogs paws. A lot of trips to the hardware store, a lot of videos online, and a lot of back breaking work turned my grass away from the weeds! One more season and I will have lush beautiful grass! Another thing we worked on as a couple was disassembling our dish washer just to find a tiny piece of plastic had clogged up our pipes. We did in an hour what would have cost 600$ for someone to come do. I was very proud of that moment we shared together! Even in our 30’s it can feel like we’re kids. It’s nice when you do something very adult and advanced, especially when you can share it with your partner.

The last thing I like about myself (I do like more things about myself the prompt is just for 5 things) are my interpersonal skills . Things like telling a story, developing a relationship with individuals to get to know them better , and really being involved in active listening . I can tell a good story, and when I go up on the stage, I spin a solid yarn. I have the gift of gab, and it has served me well in every job. I’m able to connect with people quickly and endear myself to them. I’m able to provide services better because I’m listening and engaged. Hopefully this last skill is what eventually will pay the bills. Hopefully the stories I write are enough to bring in the bread so to speak. I’ve always loved forming fun tales and characters in Dungeons and Dragons worlds, so it’ll be fun to see if my world-building holds up.

Those are a few of the things that I like about myself. I hope you have a lot of things that you like about yourself as well. An honorable mention to my set of skills, is the skill of gardening. I say honorable mention because, while I had some success this year, it was not the greatest of successes. It’s a hobby, that I enjoy very much, and could potentially lead to putting a little bit of food on our table. However, I did start of the year by killing every single plan I own by over fertilizing them. I decided it’s not one of my five most favorite things about me to be a plant murderer. Remember to always look at the amount of fertilizer per gallon of water you are supposed to use and don’t assume the packs are pre sorted for that volume! Thank you to anyone who has run through some of the things that I like about myself. I’d love to know some of the things that you really like about yourself! Do we have any in common? Please let me know in the comments! Continue working hard On being the best person you can be and take a second to toot your own horn. We all have a bit of something amazing in each of us.

Toot Toot!
