I think that everyone has a favorite way to get their sweat on. For me I am a huge fan of active games. Sure it’s fun to go to the gym and focus on building everything up, or go for a walk/jog to build up endurance. However there is nothing truly like being in the middle of a game of basketball, soccer, or my favorite sport to play, ultimate frisbee. I played a bit when I was in college and am now getting back in to it with the seasonal leagues. It’s sparked a lot more life in to me wanting to workout over just a simple need to get healthier. Not only do I need to get healthier but I need to get my endurance up so I don’t embarrass myself on the field! Ultimate frisbee is one of those sports where everyone kind of rolls their eyes at the athletic needs involved, but at 35 it kicks my ass! Especially when I have to compete against 20 year old college athletes who are in the same league! It encourages me so much though. They say that the sharpest blades are made against the roughest stone.
There are a few other sports that I’ve enjoyed over the years that would qualify as weird and a very fun workout! I’ve participated in not so out there activities like fencing and curling. Easily two of my favorite Olympic events to watch but also a blast to do! Not very intensive at first, but endurance wears you down at these events in the long term. Plus it’s always a fun conversation starter to tell people that you’ve participated in these niche sports. I also like some of the yard game events that are a bit more physical like spikeball. It’s a lot more fun to play at the beach and am excited for the day I get to play with my kids! I want to try out pickleball but I don’t have a time for when I can go to the courts! Someday maybe!
However you like to sweat it’s best to get out there and do it. The best times in life are usually had in fun competition or exerting oneself! So get out there and get it people!
