Can you share a positive example of where you’ve felt loved?
Today’s prompt popped up in my notifications, and it couldn’t have been more serendipitous. There are moments in life when we’re called to be there for others. To be their source of comfort in times of hardship or to celebrate achievements. I know I’ve had those moments with others. Moments that show love. But the kind of love I receive from my children comes from a place unlike anything else. It’s a bond that transcends every other relationship I’ve ever had. I understand better now why my parents still tolerate and love me even after all the things I’ve put them through!
The pure innocence and unwavering confidence in me that radiates from their little faces makes me want to be better. To be worthy of that love.
Children have a way of showing you the best version of yourself. If you’ve read a few of my blog posts, you already know how much I love being a dad. My drive to grow, to become a better, more present anchor in their lives, stems from this love. Every time I see the care and confidence reflected in their eyes, it pushes me to strive for more.
And as much as my children inspire me, so does my wife. She has a tenacity and patience that can’t be overstated—a strength that refuses to let me lose the battles I fight within myself. Her care and determination have taught me to truly accept that I am loved. Not just as a temporary source of comfort or reliability in a crisis, but as something more.
She’s given me the grace to acknowledge my shortcomings and embrace the person I am, while still striving to be better. She’s shown me that I can grow into an even better man, father, husband, and friend. Her love, alongside the love of our children, is the foundation that keeps me moving forward.
So why was this prompt so fitting today? Because last night, as I held my son and he drifted in and out of sleep, he whispered, “I wanna be like you, Daddy.” So quiet and sweet. I melted. My wife smiled, and in that moment, I knew she would be proud if he grew up to be like me.
It was the most love I’ve ever felt in a single moment.
The love of my family.
The loves of my life.
